The Barberi Race and the Gricio Curve

Every year in Ronciglione during the festivities held during Carnival and in August in honour of Saint Bartholomew, the patron saint of the town, the peculiar Barberi race takes place: it is an equestrian race where the horses run without a jockey through the inner roads of the town. From the start in Piazza del Monumento to the finish at the Palazzaccio after the uphill road of Montecavallo, the horses run through the Renaissance-period roads of the town going by a sharp curve that goes uphill that is both dangerous and important for the result of the race, and this curve is called Gricio Curve.
